Why is this type of coverage important?
Accident, Cancer, Critical Illness, and Hospital Confinement plans are supplementary programs that help employees prepare of the financial strain that accidents and sickness can bring.
These plans are not substitutes for a comprehensive group health benefit plan.
Most group health benefit plans do not reimburse members for coinsurance, deductibles, caregivers, special medical equipment, household renovations, loss of income and extra living expenses that a person may incur if they get hurt or sick..
How is this type of coverage purchased?
Supplemental health plans are normally offered to employees on a voluntary/employee pay all basis. Although the employer does not pay for the actual monthly premium, a successful offering of voluntary benefits plans does require employer involvement.
The five factors for a successful voluntary benefit enrollment are:
- Employer Support
- Existing need for Product, gaps are present in current coverage(s)
- Focused Product Offering
- Centralized workforce
- Stable workforce
